The African Union postpones the decision on granting "Israel" observer status to the February summit

Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra revealed, on Friday evening, that the file of granting "Israel" the status of an observer member of the African Union, will be presented to the summit scheduled for the entity next February.
This came in statements to Lamamra, quoted by local media, after the end of the work of the Executive Council of the African Union, which was held on 14 and 15 October.
On July 22, the "Israeli" Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that its ambassador to Ethiopia, Admasu Elali, had submitted his credentials as an observer member to the African Union.
According to Lamamra, the African Union Executive Council studied the issue at the suggestion of Algeria and Nigeria and was supported by the majority of African foreign ministers.
After he considered the decision of the Union Commission to accept "Israel" as an observer member "irresponsible", he assured that the African foreign ministers agreed to present the issue to the summit of EU heads of state next February.
"We hope that the summit will be a correct beginning for an Africa worthy of its history and not support an irreversible division in the future," he added.
On July 25, the Algerian Foreign Ministry announced, in a statement, its refusal to accept "Israel" as a new observer in the union, stressing that the decision was "taken without consultations."
Later, Arab media reported that 7 Arab countries had informed the African Union of their objection to its decision to grant "Israel" observer status in the continental organization, a position with which the League of Arab States stood in solidarity.
